Sorry, I have no idea what to do with this error, but please note that you are **never** forced to delete anything in order to install a new version. And certainly not your data directory.
Do not delete.
Rename the directory (so it won't be overwritten) and then make the install.
So, in case of troubles you still have your old directory available if necessary.

I'm pretty sure that the install takes care about the important already existing files, but saving your data directory (from time to time) is a costless precaution.
