Let me try to illustrate the importance of flexibility with 2 examples:

1. **Lightning Network smart contracts** - these are being built and researched now. They might not be fully functional until 1 or 2 years from now... but they could become the standard for P2P BTC/fiat exchange in 2 years.

2. **Atomic cross chain swaps** - some exist now, but most are experimental. Many more are still in the research stage.

If we make a choice now and exclude these options forever, Bisq2 will be locked out of the best tech for P2P exchange. We might end up having to start again with Bisq3 or, more likely, Bisq will just fade away into irrelevance as dev and user interest moves on to other projects.

However if Bisq2 is a flexible platform - any dev that wants to try out one of these new techs will save a lot of time by just working on a Bisq module for that. Instead of having to spend years building the entire platform, they can plug into the Bisq2 platform, liquidity and community.
